Habitat for Humanity Testimonials - Volunteer

What our volunteers have to say about Macomb County Habitat for Humanity.

Retired but not done helping!

"

Most of us given an opportunity to help our fellow man would do it willingly. It’s God’s command ! However busy lives, family obligations, the timing, necessary skills and sundry legitimate reasons prevent many from not getting involved.

As a healthy retired individual I can’t use these as reasons to not help people in need. When I can devote 2-3 days a week----I enjoy the camaraderie, the sense of accomplishment and it makes me feel good about myself that I’m helping to provide housing for deserving families.

I have been involved with the Habitat for Humanity organization since 2005 when I assisted with a blitz build in Detroit for an entire neighborhood of new homes near the former Tiger Stadium. Habitat is the kind of "community" where you can learn new skills and make many new friends every day. All this along with the realization that you are providing a "hand up" not a hand out to those who so desperately need it.

Habitat has changed lives, one home at a time. Volunteers are always needed so get involved. The rewards are wonderful. Do something different and make a real difference...today!

Pounding nails alongside....

"

My experience as a Habitat volunteer has been very positive and rewarding.  I first joined Habitat as a volunteer in early 2009 to be part of a crew on a women build.  I had unexpectedly lost my job after being gainfully employed for some 31 years. I needed an activity that would give my life some purpose and meaning to keep me from descending into a state of depression.  That is exactly what I found working with Habitat.  I was pounding nails alongside people from all walks of life working together toward a common goal.  Everyone on the site was there because they wanted to be.  The experience was uplifting, educational and fun.  I have continued to volunteer with Habitat on and off for the past 3 years and I will continue to do so because I believe in what they do.  I feel proud to be a part of this worthwhile organization.

Connecting the Faith Community to our Communities

"

Macomb Habitat for Humanity has allowed me, both while chairing the Faith Relations Team and while volunteering at the work sites, to be involved in connecting the Faith community with its efforts to improve our communities.  It also allows me to get to know and develop friendships with others as they endeavor to provide families with safe, affordable homes. We are always looking for other volunteers who want to mobilize churches and volunteers with us.

Paint it Pink!

"

Hello, my name is Autumn and I am 8 years old. I would love have my own room so that I can paint it pink. The living room would be big enough for the whole family to spend time together.  It will be great to have a yard that I can play with my friends and my dog Flash in.  I am excited that my family is getting a house through Macomb Habitat for Humanity.
