Macomb County Habitat For Humanity | Women Build
History of Women Build
Women Build is a department of Habitat for Humanity International that promotes the involvement of women in Habitat home construction. Its aim is to help empower women to address the problem of poverty housing for themselves, their families and their neighbors.
Women Build Background:
The first women-only "Habitat build" took place in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1991, planting the seed for Habitat's Women Build Program. In 1998, Habitat for Humanity International officially created the Women Build Department. Since then, the program has grown in leaps and bounds. To date, more than 1,750 official Women Builds have been completed--nine of them in Macomb County!
Macomb County's Women Build initiative is steadily growing and gaining steam. Behind-the-scenes work is being accomplished daily as we move toward undertaking annual Women Build projects. Helping to eliminate substandard housing in Macomb County neighborhoods is our #1 goal.
